AFRICA'S HIGHEST CHALLENGE TEAM

I am grateful to all of the project team members - a small team - each member of which has believed in and helped with the 'Africa's Highest Challenge'.

HRH The Prince of Wales, Patron

His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, previously served in the Royal Navy, and having worked with the Clearance Diving Branch, he may know more than most the average diver's mentality to get the job done at all costs. It was a great honour to hear that His Royal Highness would take on the Patronage of 'Africa's Highest Challenge'.

Commodore T J Barton RN, Retd, Keeping Track Patron

Tim Barton was my Captain on HMS Endurance. He had the unique capability to get the very best out of the people serving for him by getting to know each individual's strengths, weaknesses, and goals in life.

Lt Cdr David Ince RN, Project Manager

A mine clearance diving officer in the Royal Navy, Dave was my boss for many years on one of the more specialised diving teams in the Navy. Again with your typical diver's mentality to get the job done no matter what, Dave has supported the project since its conception.

           Grant Hutchison, Mountain Advisor

Grant must be considered as one of the most knowledgeable people on countries, mountains and remote places on our planet Earth. Author of 'World's Tops and Bottoms', a small booklet that lists the highest and lowest peak in every country of the world. Grant helped me on Europe's Highest Challenge and without his continued help with 'Africa's Highest Challenge' I might still be wandering around the jungles of central Africa or the deserts of north Africa trying to find the highest peaks. If I had to sum up the help given to me by Grant, it would have to be as the best climbing partner I have ever had, or since I have never actually climbed a mountain with him, perhaps I should say the best climbing partner I have 'never had'. Grant continues with his research work of countries and mountains as well as visiting many of the remotest places on our planet, this is alongside his work as an anaesthetist at a major hospital.

           Robert Reider, Website Creator

I met Rob on the way to Malawi's highest mountain. It was to be my 21st highest peak in Africa and Rob's first. We formed an immediate and strong friendship and Malawi would be the first of five countries' highest mountains we would climb together in Africa. It was Rob's idea to create a website for 'Africa's Highest Challenge' and as we had teamed up so well in the mountains, I was happy to have Rob as the final member of the small project team. Rob is currently studying at the University of Bath.

John Croker and David Hindley, Globalocator Support Team

John and David deserve a mention for their full support and backing of the project from a very early stage. Without doubt their tracking equipment helped to authenticate this record attempt. They both freely gave their time and help to the project for which I am very grateful.

Clive Carpenter and Hein Le Roux, Guinness Book of Records

Clive Carpenter used to work for the Guinness Book of Records and it was he who authenticated my European world record, being the first person to climb each of the highest peaks in the 47 countries in Europe. After he left the Guinness Book of Records his role was taken over by Hein Le Roux. Hein has patiently and professionally authenticated my claims to have climbed 52 out of the 53 highest peaks in Africa. Like me, he awaits the conclusion of Africa's Highest Challenge.

           Expedition Secretary

The expedition secretary has provided support throughout the project.
